Scientists Discover How Adult Stem Cell Regulation Contributes to Lung Cancer

June 19, 2014.

UCLA researchers led by Dr. Brigitte Gomperts, member of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research have discovered how factors that regulate growth of adult stem cells that regenerate tissue for repair in the lungs can lead to the formation of pre-cancerous lesions. This process is thought to be the first stage in the development of lung cancer... (more...)

Researchers Discover New Airway Stem Cell

July 29, 2011, Kim Irwin

Researchers at UCLA have identified a new stem cell that participates in the repair of the lungs' large airways, which play a vital role in protecting the body from infectious agents and toxins in the environment... (more...)

Adult lung stem cells, vital to injury repair, associated with poor cancer prognosis

August 17, 2010, Kim Irwin

Adult stem cells that are vital for airway repair in the lung but that persist in areas where pre-cancerous lesions are found are associated with a poor prognosis in patients who develop cancer, even those with early-stage disease, researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have found...
